The main goal of the project is to develop small ecosystems for sustainable development, based on the education of children and adolescents, adding different pillars of training, as a way of reducing school drop-out rates and improving the teaching-learning process. This initiative includes differents components to enhance the development of children and teenagers:
Agriculture is the basis of development in Mozambique and the main activity in the rural areas. With the support of iDE, we introduced an agricultural tunnel to produce food through sustainable technology and stimulate the students to engage in agricultural production.
Chronic food insecurity is now estimated at 24 percent and malnutrition at 25 percent in Mozambique (World Food Program, 2020). Student's school results are influenced by hunger, and Machel Fidus will address this challenge in partnership with Fraternity Without Borders, by setting up a nutrition center to give a daily meal to the students and contribute to better school results.
One of the main values of the Machel Fidus Association is sustainability and building a more ecological society. Machel Fidus and Sergio Gago Foundation are working together to install ecopoints, ecological wall and workshops to raise the student's awareness to keep the world cleaner.
Many students in Mozambique still has limited access to technology, impacting school performance, and affecting professional insertion in the future. Through the partnership with INCM/FSAU, Vodacom, OLOGA and Community T@blet we are addressing this issue by installing a WI-FI tower, IT LAB, and giving workshops about digital literacy.
